Obtaining a Driving Licence C+E

Driving licence C+E is the most comprehensive HGV license you can obtain. It allows you to drive a lorry with a semi-trailer or trailer of more than 750 kg.

The training for category CE is an obvious progression from the course that leads to Category C. It includes driving on roads that have different traffic density and on training tracks.

Requirements

A driving licence is a valid document that shows that a driver has satisfied the legal requirements for driving. The requirements differ from one country to the next however, they all require passing a driving test and not having any traffic violations on record. The tests are usually divided into two parts: the theory and practical. However there are exceptions. The first step to obtain a driver's license is completing the driving course and passing the theory test. The driver must be physically fit enough to drive, and certain countries require proof of this, including an examination for medical reasons.

The next step is to apply for a Category C license, or the Car Driver's License. This allows you to drive passenger vehicles, trucks, and trailers up to 7.5 tonnes. If you already hold a Cat C license, you can upgrade to Category C + E, which permits you to drive articulated heavy-goods trucks up to 44 tons.

To obtain a Category C licence you must be 21 years old. This is the minimum requirement. However, you might be eligible to obtain one earlier if completed or are currently in the instruction for the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. You must also have an official driving license to qualify for the category C+E license.

The C+E driving license is the most hgv-advanced category available. It blends the C and E categories and is the most comprehensive hgv licence you can get.
